Cold Temperatures Causing You Pain?

Here comes the snow, the cold, the joint aches and pains? What does cold weather do to our bodies and how can we prevent it this Bozeman winter?

There is not any one reason why bodies are affected by the cold weather, however there are theories of why cool, damp conditions have such a negative impact on the joints. Research has been done recently finding a direct link between the air pressure and the pain in joints supporting the theory that arthritis is worse in cold weather. When the air pressure drops it allows the tissues of the body to expand, if inflammation is already present the increase of swelling will cause an increase in arthritic pain

An increased thickness in the fluid that fills the joint capsule is also a possible culprit for cold weather pain. With the viscosity changed by the temperature the joint is less mobile and unable to work optimally. Think of it like what cold temperatures do to the oil in your vehicles.

Another cause for increased arthritic pain is because individuals tend to be more sedentary during the winter months. During the colder times joints stiffen up and discomfort occurs, staying active is essential for controlling arthritic pain and low temperatures make it less comfortable for people to continue to be active.

Chiropractic has been proven to help arthritis pain greatly and studies reveal that Chiropractic Care is nearly 3x as effective as heat for arthritic low back pain!! *

Management of this pain would include heat and regular exercise plan that continues during the winter months as well as getting chiropractic adjustments. The adjustments would allow movement in the capsule to bring relief to that joint through mobility. Call Gallatin Valley Chiropractic at (406) 551-2177 for a free consultation today!
