So what does this mean? While the top vertebrae in the neck is an attachment point for the muscle known as the “rectus capitis posterior minor”, the other attachment point for this muscle is the spinal dura matter, the thick tissue that surrounds the brain, as noted in recent research. This is known as the myodural bridge. Therefore, if your top vertebrae is misaligned, it will overstretch the muscle attached to the spinal dura matter, creating intense pain, or what we know as a headache.
